Story:
🧡There is purpose & a story behind this photo this photo. This is a reminder of Residential School Survivors, those who did not make it home. My late Grandmother and many other of my family members were Residential School Survivors & I am here because of my grandmother’s strength and her resilience. This photo pays homage to those before us. It speaks to the hope and to the healing that is happening & for me I find healing through traditional moose hide tanning. Lastly it’s important to continue to tell our stories of our kin who attended these so called schools and the deep inter generational truths it continues to have on our families.
🧡My daughter Kadence made this digital drawing, it embodies my other 9 year old daughter scraping a moose hide on a moose hide our family has been working on.
🧡Anyone can wear this shirt, we encourage you to support Indigenous Artists & Businesses and not buy Culture Appropriation (buying from non-Indigenous). We encourage anyone not just wear an Orange Shirt on Sept 30th but throughout the year.
Funds: Will he going to a hide camp ‘Connecting Residential School Survivors and Kin Through apisimôsos (Deer)Hide Tanning’ where Residential School Survivors will gather with their kin and we will work collectively on traditionally tanning deer hides. We will be hosting a 2nd camp for Residential School Survivors & their Kin May 2026 long weekend. This application will be posted March 2026/Early April 2026.
